We are not far from “Spring Cleaning” time at our house. When the weather begins to warm up we love to open up the house and begin to organize. It’s a perfect time to look at what we are going to recycle and reuse as we move into the new Season. By the way… we have some very special things coming with PREPARE so be sure to stay in touch!

We hear this word often in the world around us; the word ‘Recycle’. It really doesn’t matter if it’s a new hot topic, a means of stretching what you have or a return back to the basics, recycling is here to stay; as it should be. The ability to Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Repurpose or Refuse any item due to its fleeting period of usefulness is not only a conscious decision, but it may also take some training to incorporate these choices into our daily lives. This is exactly what a few of the articles in this month’s Digital Issue of PREPARE Magazine will focus on, but the authors approach this topic uniquely with your preparedness lifestyle in mind.
In the featured article of the month, one of our Distinguished Contributors, Ken Youngquist shares how vast the possibilities are for survival by just Opening your eyes to resources that surround you. Many of the seemingly ordinary items that are around you may save your life if you just looked for them and look at them differently. Also the old adage of what to do with something “if it ain’t broke” just doesn’t seem to apply to the self-reliant crowd. It’s far more prudent to adapt the mantra of “If It’s Broke, Fix It!” And we all know that most plastics, glass, paper and metals can be recycled in one way or another, but did you ever think about Recycling Vegetables?
Aside from the recycling focus of this issue, there are other skills and know-how to attend to. Do you know the Five Firearm roles in Emergency Preparedness? Well you will soon. We also are happy that in this issue is a Very Basic Beginner’s Guide to Permaculture Gardening. It is written to simply open the door to this very bountiful option of planting once and harvesting for life! If you’ve not thought of it before or are not aware of the simplicity of permaculture, you may want to dig further after this issue. It’s bought, it’s stocked, it’s stored and you’ve got it. But practice is often something that many people forget is a vital part of being more prepared. We hope that you’ll be inspired by the true story of the author’s journey and begin Testing Preps and Being Tested yourself. To top off your training for this issue, have you ever asked yourself, “How aware are your ears?” Chances are good this isn’t something you’ve pondered too much – but after reading more about it, you just may see the importance!
For a more philosophical look at preparedness, we’re pleased to share a moving story of relationships in the metaphorical Apache Story – Cross Wind and Thunder. And if a devotional ever had an applicable overtone, this one surely does. Water and Spirit – A Scriptural Correlation not only inspires with the connection but also offers practical wisdom for saving your life.
It doesn’t matter if we are in the same area or across the globe; we can be better prepared together. That is why we would like to draw your attention to the new addition of the CLASSIFED ADS section. Next month, we have Food Storage Recipe Contest! A recipe can be for a food storage items or from food storage items. Look for the ad in this issue for how to enter and hopefully win!
